Meet up. Meet up for your life

A piece of great writing that stayed with me these last weeks? Maybe the first lines of a New Yorker article that I read some time ago. It was something like when did summer come along? Oh, I know, while we were staring at our laptops, phones, iPads… That’s a contemporary poem right there. It’s funny ‘cause it’s true, adds a stand up comedian after a joke. This time, not so funny.

Instead of going out or making an appointment to a therapist, I found solace in more work. More like WOL (Working Out Loud). So I signed up for another tech meeting newsletter. In my continuous quest to seek out strange new forums and online communities , to boldly go where everyone else seems to have gone already: The NY Tech Meetup. What has this got to do with Well, let me just say that for me it is one more proof that we are on the right track with our platform.

I’m reproducing one of the last emails I got. It’s from Edward Potter and I find it bold, real and ready to party. This post is fresh. It’s 9 hours old.

What is an ICO (Initial Coin Offering) and How Does it Work?

> We are seeing the rise of a new phenomenon, which has gripped the tech world and is changing the way in which start ups raise capital, shifting away from initial public offerings (IPO), crowdfunding or seeking the assistance and influence of venture capitalists, with Initial Coin Offerings now all the rage.

On FIRE!  Who needs a VC? NO ONE!

On the road to knocking out our first ethereum coin, more to follow. It’s all built in JS, which makes it pretty easy.

Speaking to a friend at JP Morgan, “what about regulations?”

The SEC has no &^%^&&* clue to what’s happening now. Not a clue. It’s moving to fast for anyone to regulate. We’re all on Fire. And we’re loving it. Goldman Sachs is all over it. It’s all anyone on Wall Street is talking about now.

The US$ is crashing, we’re all moving to crypto now. It’s the place to be.

Food for thought :-))))

Sounds like a distress signal. But did it grab your attention? Did it disrupt your current line of thought? I bet it did.

Let me tell you why. Founded in 2004, NY Tech Meetup is the largest meetup group in the world. It is run by NY Tech Alliance, a non-profit organization formed by the merger of NY Tech Meetup (the non-profit) and New York Tech Council in 2016. The mission of the NY Tech Alliance is to represent, inspire, support, and help lead the New York technology community and ecosystem to create a better future for all.

It’s an honest and direct way to contact, interact, pitch, recruit business talent. But besides all the up to date info on what the market is doing or about to do next, there is something else that I really appreciate about this forum / newsletter. What hit me in this “fake it ‘till you make it” world, is the casual way, the language, the friendly and quick response from all the members who feel touched by the subject. Or just by the involuntary need to help a peer.

It’s a community. Of business people. That respect each other’s time, ideas and values. It’s what Ventacy. com is and stands for. Here at VENTACY, we aim to make people realize that even if their businesses are different, their “journey” is the same.
